Good morning, fam. This is Your Mom PSA, Listen to Your Mom, Episode 6: Breathe with Me.
So we’re just going to take a minute, sit in a comfortable position, whether that’s crisscross applesauce or in your chair or your bed. Close your eyes.
We’re going to do a couple of deep breaths: in through your nose, out through your mouth. Let’s begin…
In through your nose, and exhale through your mouth.
Let’s do that again.
In through your nose, and out through your mouth.
This next time, I want you to inhale for a count of four, hold for a count of four, and exhale for a count of six. It’s going to look a little something like this:
Inhale…2…3…4
Hold…2…3..4
Exhale…2…3…4…5…6
Let’s do it again.
Inhale…2…3…4
Hold…2…3..4
Exhale…2…3…4…5…6
We’re going to do it one more time.
Inhale…2…3…4
Hold…2…3..4
Exhale…2…3…4…5…6
Let your breathing return to normal.
This is the breathing routine that I use every time I start to have a panic attack. I also use it when I wake up in the middle of the night. By focusing on the counting, I am able to get back to sleep.
And I really hope that this can work for you, too.
Let me know if you did the exercise, how it made you feel, and if you would want a little more of something like this.
Until next time,
Love you,
Your Mom
