Good morning, fam.
While June was designed formally as Pride Month in 1999, under the Clinton administration, the fight and celebration of pride officially began after the Stonewall uprising in 1969. I tell you this, not because my LGBTQIA+ don’t already know, but as a reminder that people have been trying to erase us from existence forever.
And they’ve failed.
Every. Single. Time.
We’ve stood proud against our oppressors. Spoke our truth loudly wrapped in the colors of a rainbow that represents all of us.
And we’ll do it again.
I know it’s ridiculously overwhelming right now, especially if you’re one of my trans babies. But we will survive this round of stupidity, too.
Will it be easy? No, kiddos, it won’t be. And the fight will be long and hard. We’re going to lose blood, sweat, tears, and even people. That’s the sad truth of it.
We will honor those we lost.
We will rebuild and build anew.
We will love our friends, families and allies.
We will continue to write our history, as if our lives depend on it.
Because they do.
We—each and every one of us—are worth it.
And I’ll remind you every time you need it.
Love,
Your Mom
