Good morning, fam. Let’s talk about Mother’s Day.
If you’ve known me for any length of time, then you know that I have a love/hate with Mother’s Day. And honestly, that’s one of the reasons I started this series: to be the mom I didn’t have.
I know I’m not alone in this feeling.
No matter the why of your conflict with this holiday, I want you to know that you can opt out.
Let me repeat that:
You can opt out.
You are under NO obligation to celebrate someone who hasn’t been a good mother to you.
Might there be reprecussions? Probably. After all, for us, growing up with them was trauma, and for them, it was just another Wednesday. They aren’t going to suddenly realize they are toxic people. No, they’re just going to lash out and blame you.
So save your sanity. Choose not to engage on this Hallmark holiday meant for mothers who actually mother, not just egg donors.
You have my permission.
You deserve better.
I hope you and the kids have a great day.
