Take the commercialism out of this holiday

Good afternoon, fam,

Just wanted to pop in and check on you today.

February 14th can be a difficult day. Whether it’s due to past trauma over the day, or being single during a time when we are inundated by glossy, unrealistic coupledom in ads, on TV and social media.

I get it. I’ve been there. It’s hard. But today I want you to think about this:

You are worthy of love and respect.

Yesterday, today, tomorrow… doesn’t matter.

But Mom…

Listen to me, not society: You are not obligated to entertain today as anything other than another day in your life. It’s a made-up holiday. It’s commercial. It’s another empty money grab.

You are not less important because you aren’t in a relationship and/or swimming in flowers and chocolate. (And speaking of chocolate, your money is better spent on the candy sales tomorrow! )

YOU have worth right where you stand on your own two feet. You do not need to belong to someone else to attain that.

And anyone who tells you otherwise should be ignored.
