Good morning, fam. Today I want to talk about decompressing.
Let’s start with a breathing exercise, okay?
Take a minute, sit in a comfortable position, whether that’s crisscross applesauce, in your chair or your bed. Close your eyes.
We’re going to do a couple of deep breaths.
In through your nose, and exhale through your mouth.
Let’s do that again.
In through your nose, and out through your mouth.
This next time, I want you to inhale for a count of four, hold for a count of four, and exhale for a count of six. It’s going to look a little something like this:
Inhale…2…3…4
Hold…2…3..4
Exhale…2…3…4…5…6
Let’s do it again.
Inhale…2…3…4
Hold…2…3..4
Exhale…2…3…4…5…6
We’re going to do it one more time.
Inhale…2…3…4
Hold…2…3..4
Exhale…2…3…4…5…6
Let your breathing return to normal.
There’s a lot going on right now.
It’s really easy to feel hopeless right now. Not to mention it keeps piling on with this administration, especially if you’re part of the targeted demographics.
I’m not here to tell you to not be afraid. Or angry. Or exhausted. Because I am, too.
But in the middle of this continuous dumpster fire, we need to remember to breathe. And while we’re remembering things, let’s add these two:
The Progressive Movement Will Survive If You Step Away
It’s not your job alone to save the world. It’s a community effort. Stepping away will help you help everyone else in this fight. Your rest shows other people they can rest, too. That’s how we keep moving forward.
There is Zero Requirement to Know Everything
There’s a ton of shit going on, and that’s intentional. Their plan is to overwhelm you while they push their agenda behind the scenes. Ingesting everything physically hurts your body, because there’s no opportunity for a release.
If you insist on knowing, sign up for a newsletter like 1440, which condenses everything into non-partisan bites while providing links if you want to know more.
You are going to survive this. Not only survive but thrive. I know it doesn’t seem possible right now, but it’s true. It may take us a little longer to get there, but we will. Together.
Until next time.
Love,
Your Mom
