Good morning, fam. Let’s talk about kindness.
“Sometimes it takes only one act of kindness and caring to change a person’s life.” - Jackie Chan
It’s really easy to lash out when you’re having a bad day (week, month, year). After all, if people aren’t going to be considerate to you, why should you waste your time and energy to be kind to anyone else?
I get it, but I want you to remember two things:
Kindness costs you nothing. I’m not asking for toxic positivity, just compassion for your fellow human, and
Kindness isn’t about their worthiness. It’s about you.
But, Mom!
Hey, it’s true. Kindness is about understanding that other people—even the crappy ones—have things going on in their lives that you’re not aware of. Just like you. A little bit of kindness can change their day and yours.
This does not mean you should go out of your way to be that annoying always-positive person.
Sometimes kindness is just not always saying the first thing that comes to mind when you’re tired/frustrated/angry/lost.
Sometimes it’s a concerted effort not to kick or punch down when the opportunity presents itself.
And sometimes it’s stepping away from a situation, big feels in hand, before the situation escalates.
Yes, kiddos, kindness can be self-care.
It’s okay if you can’t do this all the time. I still struggle sometimes, too. We’ll get there together.
Love,
Your Mom
