If you’re in the United States, as we head into this weekend, we’ll be celebrating Mother’s Day.
This is just a reminder that you are under no obligation to celebrate toxic people who have claimed the name of Mom.
If they cannot respect you as their child, they do not deserve any obligatory celebration. They don’t.
This is not one of those times when you should feel obligated to create any performative actions that make them feel better, because without you, they would not be a mother.
And we do not celebrate toxicity.
That’s it.
That’s all I want to tell you.
And if you ever see nee— oh, my gosh — and if you ever see me, and you need a mom hug, I’m happy to oblige.
Have a good weekend.
And let them have the day that they deserve.
Love,
Your Mom
